Adding Sound to your Blog/File Sharing
This is some help for Tblogger TFruge1 who asked me about adding sound to your blog.
This brings us to the help topic of File Sharing.
First off, TBlog does not have a file feature where you can store such things and retrieve them for your pages you will need to sign up for a free file sharing/hosting service (link below).
This tutorial is for adding a link for someone to click on and hear a sound file.
A clickable sound file link gives people the option of listening. The sound transfers to the viewers computer to play only when clicked on.
When chosing to add a sound file, make sure it is small file and a fast download.
Make sure that you are not violating any copyright laws using sound, music, or audio.
Most file sharing sites do have this written into their TOS or COC (Terms of Service, Code of Conduct) before you sign on. Read them carefully before opening an account. Violators usually get the boot and are blocked from future accounts.
What you need to do is have your uploaded sound on your puter and then get an account with a free file sharing site (link below).
Find a sound -->"Save target as" -->put in a file in your documents.
Upload your sound from your documents to your account on the file sharing site.
Once uploaded you get a URL for a reference. Copy this link.
To add a clickable link to sound to your site:
For adding sound to a post -- open your Advanced Editior -- select HTML.
OR To add sound to your HTML box -- under My Templete, Tweak HTML.
You will need to use this code -- Remove the *stars* from the code though, I only use them as a place holder so you can see the code here and it does not appear embedded.
<**a href="URL to your sound file**>Name of your Sound<**/A**>
An important note -- some file sharing sites have restrictions -- if your link is not clicked on and downloaded within 30 days, it gets deleted automatically and you now have a dead link. Make sure you read the fine print on the type of accounts.
Embedding sound to your TBlog -- this is when you embed the link and the sound automatically plays on your page whenever opened or viewed. A viewer usually must turn off the sound by adjusting their volume to mute if they don't want to listen. If you add a jukebox, then they have control whether to play it or not.
I will come back and post some more on this but a few things you should know about embedded sound --
Small files are best since they download fast.
Too big of a file can mess up your blog and cause all sorts of problems.
I did have sound on my TBlog which I removed because people could not view it. Thank goodness people told me otherwise I had no idea.
Embedding sound on TBlog could cause you some problems so I am leaving it at that for now.
Try the link way first, it is safer and people like options.
A bit more about file sharing --
Maybe you have a long article/directi ons/tutorial that you think is better in a file than an actual post.
All you have to do is to upload that file -- get the file URL -- and then make it a clickable file for blog readers to open up using the code above. This is a great way to save space if your blog does have space limitations (as some do) or no file storage.
A clickable link can also neaten up your entry so you need only post an introduction.
If you change blogs, you have an established file account and relocating your blog and reposting information is easier.
If you have large pictures and want to keep them large, then upload them elsewhere then provide a clickable link in your post.
TIP: Sometimes putting the file type or size next to your uploads is helpful and lets the viewer decide if they want to click it on or not.
Remember that if your pictures are large on your blog entry, you just have to click on the picture to get the box up and then you can drag the arrow toward the center to desize it making your blog easier to open up and not a long download.
FYI:
I have discovered that TBlog does not allow .png files so I have to upload them at ImageShack to use in my posts. Most of these are of the Advanced View Editor menu bar.
Free File Sharing Sites -- here is a page with lots of information and sites for you to make the right choice for you.
Sound Search Engine
Just a note -- this is a help article -- I have filed some of my help items under Misc. or Computers/Internet -- I don't know if I should put them under another category like Education or Hobbies. I could use a little direction here from fellow TBloggers because I just don't know where people look! Also, let's face it, there is too much spam one must sort through.
Please post your thoughts on this -- it is very confusing since I feel the categories are very broad and that presents limitations. Thanks so much.

I Capture the Castle
Well, another period costumed piece. "I Capture the Castle" is a novel by Dodie Smith, an English novelist and playwright. The movie stays true to the popular book (by all accounts of the dedicated fans) with only a tad of improvisied change. The book was written in 1948 and this is the first time it was ever made into a movie, and a wonderful one at that.
The movie stars Tara Fitzgerald as the nudist artsy stepmom married to Bill Nighy a writer who has suffered from writer's block for a long time. He is waiting for that spark to write another successful novel after his first one was such a hit years earlier.
The family consisits of two teenage daughters and a son, who are living in a run down rented castle and are extremely poor. The beginning of the movie has much humor (including a play on their last name Mortmain) and their dire and dreary situation.
The beginning of the movie has some flashbacks as to how they ended up in this situation. Very sad indeed and then how their prior situation put their father in this writer's block. Basically, he never got over the death of his first wife and has developed problems which affect everyone from his denial over the years.
The story focuses on 17 year old Cassandra, the younger of the two girls. She is sensible, plain, and simple, but is wise yet naive at the same time. Rose her older sister is beautiful and wants a way out of these horrid living conditions.
Along comes the new owners of the castle who show up to collect the rent long past due. Rose and Cassandra think that romance with the new owners will take them away from their dire situation. They are very funny and very naive at the same time. The humor lies in the comparisons of weathly/rich, American/British, manners, and culture.
It was very evident that Rose only wanted material things, the things she did not have while living a Bohemian life at the castle. She thought she could aquire this through marriage to someone she did not actually love. Rose should have read Madame Bovary first. (Another movie and book I recommend.)
But things don't always work out the way they imagine and this is where the reality comes in as Cassandra wrestles with her own growing up and trying to do what is right. Only she does not and the young man who has loved her since childhood takes the issue into his own hands then speaks the truth to who needs to know. I thought this was an incredibly brave thing he did, because he truly loved Cassandra and did not want to see her suffer, although she did not love him in that way.
Cassandra also has to deal with her Dad and helps him face his problems head on. This was the emotionally dark part of the movie and is very moving since this is what has affected them all over the years.
In the end, Cassandra knows what she wants but she takes the time for herself first before making any commitments to anyone.
The book and the movie are both great. Read the book first before you see the movie.
I recommend both to all young people who need to see another young adult trying to figure out life, love, while keeping a firm foot on the ground, emotions in their right place and planning goals for their future.
My favorite scenes:
When the new owners arrive at the castle.
When Rose and Cassandra find out they have inherited something from their aunt and visit the big city to find out what it is and what happens after that.
When Rose "entertains" the family and guests in the castle living room with her piano playing trying to impress Neil.
When the door opens at the Cotton's estate for the dinner guests and Rose is wearing the lovely gown Topaz made just for her to make an impression.
This was my favorite though -- A long shot of the castle and Mr. Mortmain is walking toward it and under his arm, carrying his typewriter just incase he gets that "sprark" to start his new novel at any moment at anywhere.
When Cassandra and her brother move Mr. Mortmain out of the castle to get his creative juices flowing.
Dodie Smith (1896-1990) also wrote "101 Dalmations".

Brownie Surprise
Stamped image with dye ink ny me.
Stamp by Marks of Distinction
Brownie Surprise - a secret recipe
I have been making these for ages and it is a simple and fast recipe.
I am putting it here in my blog so the Brownies don't take it and hide if from me again. (More about them in the last blog article.)
8 inch square greased pan -- 325 degree oven -- bake for 30 minutes
1/4 cup of baking cocoa
1/2 cup of margerine
2 eggs beaten
1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
3/4 cup of flour
1/8 teaspoon of salt
Optional: 1/2 cup of walnuts or/and 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
Combine the cocoa, margarine.
Beat in the 2 eggs.
Add the sugar, vanilla.
Add in slowly the 3/4 cup of flour and salt.
Add in the walnuts and/or the chocolate chips.
Let cool after baking. Cut into 9 squares.
Eat plain or serve with a scoop ice cream or whipped cream.
Can be used as a base for a brownie sundae also.
Enjoy.
Some brownie facts --
Brownies were discovered by accident when someone forgot to put the baking soda in a chocolate cake. Indeed a happy accident it was!
The earliest recorded recipe for brownies was in an 1897 Sears RoeBuck catalog.
I believe there should be a seperate food group for Brownies. LOL

Brownies: The Wee Folk
Rubber stamped image by me using dye ink.
Stamp by Marks of Distinction.Canadian born Palmer Cox (1840-1924) illustrated and wrote rhyming stories about the wee little people called Brownies that traveled at night, did good deeds and had fun in the process of their adventures. Brownies are part of Scottish or English fairy lore. The Brownies appeared in children’s magazines (St. Nicholas, and Wide Awake Magazine) and then several books. They were extremely popular at the time but as any thing else, slowly died out.
The Brownies in illustrations are always busy and in groups. Their personality lies on how they dress and their action but when they speak, you have no idea who is doing the talking, you can only use your imagination. The Brownies mostly have adventures when no one is looking keeping their world a secret one that we are able to know about through these books and illustrations. Palmer Cox had a huge imagination to create all of this Brownie world for us to be a witness too.
I am fortunate enough to have bought a small pocket version of the Brownies Adventures when they went into reprint years ago. They certainly are a fun group to read about. Then when I saw the images as stamps, well, I just had to have my own. So if you are a reader of this blog, be aware that the Brownies will lurk here from time to time making your visits more "whimsical".
The Kodak company took a liking to the word “Brownie” and named a camera after these wee folks.
The Brownies also worked advertising many products while they were so popular.
Brownie Points -- noun phrase -- a fancied unit of credit and approval (New Dictionary of American Slang) More definitions at Urban Dictionary.
Even the Girl Scouts have a group called “The Brownies”. Usually these girls are aged second or third grade. They have a theme song they sing:
We are the happy Brownies, we are the busy elves./
We love to help each other and of course we help ourselves./
We wake up each morning with a smile upon our face./
And if even things don’t go right, we keep that smile in place!
So let us all hope that these magical fun little spirits stop on by and visit you one night and do good deeds to help us out.

My Makeover -- LOL
Well, I went and did an avatar makeover. I went up class and high class vintage again. It is so tony! (tony - a popular old word, used on occasion now and then. Meaning: "high toned; in the height of fashion; stylish.) Actually, I have this picture in my house and it is large. I only got it because first, the little white dog looks like my loyal but true Mitzi (Humane Shelter adoptee treasure, always with me) and second, the lady looks like ME! LOL - I posed for it in my former life.
So I will try it for a while and add some class to TBlog. Maybe we shall not see so much bad language around here and the spam may die down because of it. LOL - sure.
Next post up -- All you wanted to know about Brownies -- an absolutely deliciously divine subject near and dear to my heart.
Filing this post under "Society and Culture" because it is so tony and high classed.
Stay tuned.

Consumers: Cherry Pickers and Deadbeats
I recently learned what these consumer terms mean and figured it was "blog worthy fodor" so I am sharing this new knowledge.
A consumer who is a "cherry picker" is one who only shops exclusively the sale and advertised sale items. They typically do not deviate from their list, they are firm in their purchases.
Most will shop the sales at several stores. They write down what they want how much it is, clip coupons or added savings, and total it BEFORE they even leave the house.
I learned that I am a cherry picker and use coupons occasionally. Three major grocery stores are all near each other which makes cherry picking very convienient. Coupons can be found online or in the Sunday newspaper as a glossy insert (USA).
I also learned a while back that I am a "deadbeat" according to the infamous and droll Ben Stein.
A deadbeat is a person who uses the banking industry to their advantage and pays no fees/interest/charges to the bank at all.
Examples are: free checking, paying off credit cards so you don't pay any finance fees, having a credit card that gives you a rebate at the end of the year, using the right ATM machines so that you do not pay a double service charge.
To avoid other charges - do not overdraft, do not bounce a check, do not subscribe to services that charge fees.
A deadbeats ultimate goal is to NOT pay a single service charge AND make money (interest or a bonus like the credit card rebate) off the bank.
Store managers do not like cherry pickers because they do not buy non-sale more expensive items on impulse.
Banks do not like deadbeats because they make no money off them and have to pay them to be a customer which cuts into their potential profits.
I figure that there are enough people paying these charges anyways that I am the one who benefits. It pays to be educated and have a plan.
It is all in the attitude, make the most of the system that robs you everyday. LOL

The Art Pad
Came across this site where you can create a picture and frame it (choices) then hang it in the gallery.
I looked at about 30 or so gallery works of art and they were most interesting!
The Art Pad -- a creative place to be or visit.
Ideas:
Make and Save a picture (or one you like there), resize it, and paste it onto half a sheet of standardized cardstock to make a personal hand made card.
These are great for a scrapbooking layout too.
Use a picture (yours or someone elses) for a minibook cover.

"Mrs. Henderson Presents"
I really enjoyed this movie, again another period piece and a musical. my favorite kinds of movies. This one has something for everyone -- happiness, sadness, tragedy, accomplishment, singing, dancing, and social comedy.
The movie takes place prewar and during World War II.
It begins with the funeral of the very rich Mrs. Henderson's (excellent Oscar performance by Dame Judi Dench) husband. Her friend advises her to take up a hobby like embroidery because she is now a widow, which is unsuccessful. While out on a ride one day, she discovers an abandoned theatre and buys it then fixes it up and calls it "The Windmill." The theatre becomes her new hobby and enterprise.
She then hires Vivian Van Damm (played by Bob Hoskins who also produced the film) to be the theatre manager. They are very antagonistic to one another like an old married couple but their partnership and ideas for a "theatre that never closes" with tableauxs of nude women is a huge success especially among the soldiers.
Ahhhh, but the politics just to get the show going is just as much fun with the befuddled Lord Cromer (Christopher Guest) granting permission with conditions of how they can do this within the laws of Britian and be tasteful about it.
The story mostly takes place in the theatre and you see lots of behind the scenes action and brief storylines about some of the chorus girls. There are many wonderful vintage production numbers woven into the storyline.
The great thing about this movie is that it is based on actual events and real people.
The nice surprise is that Mrs. Henderson's money went on to do a great thing for British culture which exists today.
I enjoyed the featurettes and the voice over by the director to gain more insight of how the movie was made. I was amazed to learn that most of the cast had never been on a stage set before, they were all unknowns, they were absolutely wonderful. The everyday fashions, and show costumes (or not, LOL) were marvelous.
It was a great romp through that time period, the struggles of day to day life during war time, and how important people really are to each other.

Adding an Image to a Post
You need to upload your pictures to your TBlog account or Photobucket.
Copy the direct URL for the image.
Open up the Advance View Editor.
Click on the HTML button.
A new window will open up.
Type in this code but remove the *stars*:
<*img src="Paste your pix URL here"*>
You can also copy and paste the code, remove the *stars*
then just add your pix URL.
Click on Update -- the box will close and the image should appear in your post.
You can highlight the picture and click on where you want it to go
using the alignment buttons.
(This whole post is "centered" as a demo.)
The alignment buttons are good for aligning your text too.
You can also put several pictures in your post at once and then drag them to where you want them to go using the box frame black line that will come up around them.
If the picture is too big for you, resize it, click it on till you see a box that frames the picture. Place your cursor on the box frame black line till you see a little arrow and you can drag the size of the box toward the center of the picture to make it smaller.
If you want an image before your post as I do in mine with the inked fingerprint.
Copy your direct image URL
Open up the HTML box.
Type in or copy and paste the code: <*img src="Paste your pix URL here"*>
Add your image URL.
Click on Update.
You should see your picture.
You can begin typing in your post.
You can also use this HTML code to place pictures in your
HTML boxes
under Template Tweaking in your controls.
Leave comments if this has helped you. Thanks.

Embedding A Link in a Post - Adding a Sidebar Link
It is late but I see Pastor Dave needs some help embedding links and neating up his post.
Embedding a link is to hide the URL under words so that the words can be clicked on.
You will need to use on your own tool bar, under Edit, "Copy" and "Paste".
To embed a link in a post, you need to have your advanced editor opened.
You should also have copied the entire URL you wish to use.
Type in the words you wish your link to read: EX: TBlog
Now highlight the word: TBlog (It will be black highlight box)
On your tool bar (below), you will see a small chain link (circled in red on image tool bar) under the paragraph java box check. This only gets darker when the link is highlighted. Click that on. (The link broken link next to it is to remove the link insert.)
A box will appear.
Paste the URL into the Link URL box.
Click open the target box. Select "open in new window (_blank)"
Click insert.
Your link should be live and opens up a new window keeping people on your blog underneath for a return after viewing your link.
Now if your links are too long. Copy them. Make sure you have the entire link copied.
Go to Tiny URL.
Paste the long link into the box and click -- "Make tiny URL"
A new smaller character URL comes up, copy that short URL, then you can embed that. Links created at TinyURL do not expire (eventually become broken) as with some other small URL shortening sites.
If you are using the plain view or simple view editors, then use the Tiny URL site so your links do not look messy.
Making a smaller URL may also work for you in the links section of your blog too.
Sometimes on some sites, long URLs just can't be used due to character limitations or restrictions so smaller ones make sense.
If you need to use an HTML code for a link (like in your HTML boxes), you can copy and paste one of these codes but remove the * (place holders so you can see the codes):
<*a href="Your URL"*>Name of your link<*/a*> This link code takes you to a new site and off your site.
<*a href="Your URL_blank"*>Name of your link<*/a*>This link code opens a new window so people stay on your site but can visit the other site.
Use the above codes if you wish to add hand coded links on your sidebar in the HTML boxes.
A note: When I originally wrote the above code, it appeared on the page as code however, after an edit, it turned into a link and that is why I had to add the *stars* so you could see the code. I could say that on the advanced editor, you could try to write the code and maybe it may automatically embed for you also. You can experiment.
Also note that after naming your URL, you should end the code bracket slash a bracket. For some strange reason, this keeps on disappearing from this post.
To add a link to your sidebar
You go and get your URL to that post.
Copy it.
Go to My Blog
Go to Template
Click on Add or Edit Links
Paste the URL into the URL box
Name the link (EX: About Me)
If you want it to open in a new window, click the box.
Click Add Link
It should now appear on your side bar when you check it.
When you add more links -- you can put them in order.
Make sure you click Update Order when you are done.
Since it is so late and I need my beauty rest (not the mattress), this is basic basic simple information. For now it is good to get you going.
If this has helped you in any why, why not leave a quick comment and make me happy. Thanks for visiting.

Found - Post Secrets - Overheard in NY
Found
Well, this was a most interesting site I stumbled upon a few years ago. When the book came out, I raced to the store to buy it. Have you found things, like notes, or shopping lists, pictures in places that you have been?
Davy Rothbart started a magazine of all this "found stuff" he had kept. Pretty soon people were sharing what they found with him. Next thing the magazine gets too big and he publishes a book, and then another book, and the book with all the naughty notes. Each found object is a photocopied orignal so you are experiencing the "real thing" only in a book collection form. There are found things on his website also (link below).
Some of these found things (handwritten notes, emails, pictures, half notes, shopping lists, love/hate letters, etc) and their stories are just so funny you laugh so hard you cry, and others are extremely sad. The titles of the objects by the authors are just as funny if not insightful.
The one that really makes me wonder was the little folded notes written in Polish and left at a Polish church tucked into window sills, or bushes. When found by someone, he could not read Polish and sought out someone who could, an old Polish man, a stranger in a park. The old man read the note and burst into tears and could not tell him. He found someone else to interperete the notes. A very young woman had left these little folded notes at the church because she was once again suffering from cancer and did not know if she would make it. Eventually, the little notes disappeared and we are left to wonder, what happened to her.
A funny one was the kids "Adventure Club", a secret club where one of the rules was "be nice to squrills". Their list of rules floated away and a neighbor found them. She inquired about the secret club and the kids (ages 5-8) were stunned as she recited the rules to them. They insisted she tell them how she found out. She told them that her dog Kismet had overheard everything. They walked away speechless and perplexed.
My favorite one was the poor kid sitting in an Algebra test and wrote a very clever poem on his test about his frustration with learning algebra. The teacher flunked him but gee, he was extremely creative. I would have to say, in my opinion, if he was floundering, the teacher did nothing to help him out and make him feel successful, that is the teacher's job.
These are a slice of life and a slice of someone elses problems, or issues that we can all relate too.
Davey also travels the country doing Found Readings. You can see the date and location on the website.
You can view more found objects on the fabulous website: Found
Post Secrets
Have a secret and want to tell someone you don't even know and then get it posted on the net . . . maybe?
Here is the result of an project, now ongoing, that turned into a book titled "Post Secret" by Frank Warren.
Frank went around and placed post cards with directions on it for anyone who found it and was willing to anonymously tell him their secrets and mail the card back to him. He was astounded at the results. Some are artsy, some are funny, and some reveal some very deep dark personal secrets that make you want to cry. For the most part, the secrets you read affirm your own standard of life. You can learn a lot about other people but mostly about yourself by reading the secrets.
Frank's website is updated weekly with 10 new scans of cards he has received and feels them worthy of sharing with the world. There is also a travelling show museum at the Reading PA public library for a short stint (till 10/8/06). A fair warning that some of the secrets contain foul language, violence in various forms, or are sexual in context.

Index -- TBlog Help
Just a note that I put a link to my TBlog help right under my banner and above my slide show.
I am using a former post as the index to how to articles and will be linking up all the help articles I write there.
If you wish to link to that posting, you are welcomed to.
I am halfway through writing the article on using the editing tools. That should be done by the end of the week and I will post that ASAP.
I will also have more fun things to try plus some basic HTML help . . . eventually, give me some time to organize that.
If you have any ideas for newbies, or need any information how to articles, leave me a comment.
I will do the best I can to address each issue.
I will say right now, and read carefully -- I do not know anything about the actual TBlog site or technical problems that occur or fixes. You will have to contact the management for those questions to be answered.
I am providing basic simple computer or website help information.
I did notice that my little clean code sweeper was not working in my Blogging 101 article. So sorry -- there is some bad punctuation from code there that I did not put there it was automatic. I cannot get rid of it so I need to figure that one out myself.
You can always shut off the music too if you find it annoying. That is why I left the juke box there so you can shut it off or just shut off the sound on your puter.
Meanwhile, I will also write about other interesting stuff.
Thanks for visiting. Come back again.
Blog on.

Learning to Blog 101
Several months ago, I took a workshop on learning how to blog well and all the problems of blogging. The workshop title was "Blogging for the Classroom" however, we covered all types of blogging.
I paid big bucks to take this class (got teacher recertification credits though) so now you get to see the synopsis of my course for FREE.
I have also incorporated TBlog features in this general article.
How generous is that of me to share with you? You can always leave a comment as an appreciation token.
First off, what is blogging?
Blogging is an online web log or web journal or diary. It can be personal, business, or professional.
Blogs are easy to use and most have the option of using HTML but most of them have automatic editors that you can use with ease.
You can also share pictures!
What are blogs about?
It depends on what you want your blog to be about.
Some people focus on one theme whether it be a hobby, sport, interest, politics, consumer info, travel, or just a blog about your everyday life, rants, complaints, vents, opinions, etc.
You decide what you want to write about.
It can be short and to the point, or long and detailed.
Just don't bore your readers, they may not come back so make sure your posts are interesting and noteworthy.
People read your blog and may comment on what you have to say making it an interactive experience! Who does not love comments on something they wrote or a private tmail!
How often do I have to blog?
You can post several times a day, once a day, once a week once every two weeks, maybe once a month. Any time is a fine time and on your dime.
The more often you update, the more readers you may have visiting and commenting.
How do I get readers to my blog?
You need to tell people about your blog so they can visit. If you belong to groups, you can leave the URL in your email signature. Make sure this is ok with your group because some groups do not allow this.
If you have a profile page in a group, you can also list your URL there too.
Here at TBlog, they set it up as a community and every post is categorized publically so people can visit from the category or by the rotating recent blog listing.
People can also click on Users Online under the search on the left to see who is online at the moment and can visit a blog from there or from the tblurt tag board if that member has posted there. (Little red button takes you to their blog, and green button to their profile.)
Here at TBlog, you can also ask people to be your friend or you can type in their user name under bookmarks if you wish to see the latest post in their blog and come on over for a visit.
Your bookmark list (next to visits in the menu bar above) lists the most updated blog first to the blog with no updates last. Very handy tool.
You can check out other member's friends also and read their blogs too.
What about writing a post?
When writing a post, you can create one off line with your word program and then just copy and paste it onto a new post, categorize it, and publish. It is that easy. I will be writing a tutorial on how to use the editors to help you make full use of TBlog features soon.
When writing a post in your word program -- use your spell check!
Use complete sentences and proper language and proper punctuation.
Write in paragraphs. Paragraphs make it easier to read a blog. One paragraph is a thought with supporting information. I know we looked at lots of blogs and ones with no paragraphs, forget it, I will not read. Also if the language is bad, I don't read it either. So if you want blog readers, you need to use your former education -- you did not learn all that English (or language skills) for nothing. If you weren't paying attention, then you need to relearn it all.
Your use of sentences, paragraphs, language, and punctuation  ;is a reflection of who you really are.
You want to look smart and believable! You want readers to connect with you!You want readers, who may become commentors, to come back for a visit in the future.
Save your post in your Word Program and create a "blog file" ;. This is your backup for two reasons:
A) if you lose a post or need to review or revamp it, you can off line and just republish it.
B) If you decide to move on elsewhere and leave all the rest of the TBloggers behind, you can repost your whole blog.
About Comments --
Comments can be set in any blog for either anyone on the net to comment (opening you up to some spam maybe), or just members of that site to comment or no comments at all.
I noticed at TBlog if you have "members only can comment", that any non-TBlog person visiting cannot view the comments at all. In this case, you must be signed in in order to view the comments made or make a comment in a blog.
Some blogs even allow people to comment if they are approved by the blog owner.
What is a permalink?
This is the URL where your blog entry sits. Each entry has it's own URL. Here at TBlog, we do not have permalinks listed after each post, they are contained when you click on comment and the URL in the address bar is the URL for that post.
What is a trackback?
This is how another blog can refer to your posting as a reference to their posting on the same or a similiar subject. A trackback can create traffic to your blog. There are no trackbacks available at TBlog. This is nice since they can be very confusing so simple is best if you just want to blog without worry at TBlog.
What is RSS?
RSS - Really Simple Syndication -- is a service that you subscribe to that you can add certain blogs that have RSS to a reader. You just have to check in with your RSS service and click on the blog and be taken right to it rather than typing in a URL or clicking on your favorites and finding it. When viewing your RSS reader, you see all updated information. A very handy tool only if the person has a blog with RSS availability.
At Bloglines, you can check it out for more information.
Here is a useful article on RSS: How to Explain RSS the Oprah Way
I am tired of blogging! It is too much work, I don't like writing anymore. I just don't have the time in my busy real life to continue.
Well, it is important that you remove all info on your blog and shut it down.
No one likes to visit a site that has not been updated for ages.
Here at TBlog, I noticed no delete account button. I guess you would have to email the management or Rocky to do that for you.
Other blogs may or may have an automated delete this blog button.
It was strongly stressed in the class to remove a blog you no longer have interest in.
Another issue is that if you leave your account opened, and you have comments set to "anyone on the net" -- your blog may become infested with unwanted spam.
We talked about other blog sites, pros and cons of using them, various features, vs other sites.
Mostly as teachers, one of the issues that came up, was if you used a free site for students, and there were fixed ads on the site, remember the students may see ads that are very naughty and unprofessional. So we were warned.
Another issue that was a heated discussion was about specific personal information in profiles and in blog entries it self. Over at that other site that is in the news so much, information about location and school, age, even a good picture of yourself, could make you an easy target for a reader of your blog with bad intentions in your general area. Think carefully about the personal information or photos you put in your blog, especially if you are young.
Other information such as where you work (meer mention of the company for instance), or people you mention, could be found in a search. We discussed cases where people lost jobs when they found negative things about a company in their blog entry.
One way some of this information is found out, is if you use your work computer to update your blog, in the history file, there sits your URL. So anyone who is on your computer does have access to your "private" site, which is not private anymore.
TBlog has a great search in association with Google.
Then the issue came up about sites with not too many administrators operating it. If they decide to give up their server space or something happens to that one administrator, then there goes your blog and your hard work down the drain.
We were told to pick a place that was reliable.
So now why I choose TBlog as my off shoot pet proje ct? -- I just thought it was a very nice place. I liked the templates, and I liked the ease of use --- haha -- I hear some laughter there! Once I got use to the controls, I think they are great.
My initial intention to use this blog changed when I saw what the atmosphere was here but that is all to your benefit, you are getting help so you don't go insane! Anyways, TBlog is a nice everyday people sort of blogging experience.
I also like the tmail feature here and the stats. Very cool features.
We discussed more but at this point, this is a basic introduction.
I hope this has helped someone here get a better understanding of blogging or TBlog use.
My next article will be about using the posting editors. So come on back for more help and ideas to make your tblog better.

"Ladies in Lavender"
I just watched this period movie starring Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Judi Dench.
I thought is was a good period piece and enjoyed it very much since I like those kinds of films.
The film focuses more on the powerful emotion of the heart than anything else.
It is based on a short story by William J. Locke. Charles Dance (The sneaky lawyer Tulkinghorn from "Bleak House" PBS) directed and this was his first film.
Two older sisters live by the sea in Cornwall and after a storm, find a body of a young man washed ashore.
They get help and have him stay at their seaside home to recover.
He does not speak English so they try to communicate with him as best as possible.
They get attached to him, in particular one sister.
Eventually, they find out he has a wonderful talent.
The sisters learn to let him go and be on his path in life in the end.
The performances were really wonderful and moving. It is a small gem.

Tweaking Your TBlog Template II
Ok, now you want to change or customize blog backgrounds.
Some templates only allow you to change the color background, like mine you see here. Here is a nifty color chart to use (scroll down the page to the color blocks).
Find a color you like and just type in the code into your little color boxes. I linked it so a new window comes up and you can use it when you tweak your blog. They also have a nice HTML Chart too, look at their site menu to find it at the top of the page.
Some tblog templates allow you to add a background/s.
You will need a background (selected and saved on your puter) and then you will need to upload it into your TBlog album.
You can easily access your upload by clicking on a java script box and making the proper selection.
You can find thousands of backgrounds here: Absolute Backgrounds
Select a background, right click and save to your computer into a file named "backgrounds" or "blog stuff" either in your my documents folder or my picture folder.
When you go to upload, select browse and find the file you wish to use.
Click upload.
The url it is assigned should be contained in a java drop down box on the HTML template page.
You just have to click the boxes opened to see your direct link URL and click it so it appears in the box.
About Blog Font colors -- again, use the color chart as a guide and type in the codes for the colors, much more easier and faster than using the little graph that opens sometimes and sometimes not.
About Banners -- you can make your own just like my "The Ink Blotter" at Absolute Backgrounds (link above).
I am suggesting you use them because you do have more choices there. They take the guess work out of sizing them since their generators are automatic and you don't have to type in pixel widths and heights like on other sites. I highly recommend them so go and play a bit.
Create your banner, save to your puter in a file, upload into your album, then using HTML code (on the Almo Vara template, remove the *stars*):
<*img src="URL of your image"*>
On other tBlog templates, create your banner, click on the properties, or you can see the properties when you mouse over the banner in your files. Make note of the pixel height and width. Upload your banner and then click on the proper java box
to load it onto your template. Adjust the height and width pixel numbers to prevent the banner from repeating.
More help to come . . .
If you don't want to get lost, then just add me to your bookmark section by clicking that on and typing in "inkspector".

AP: Meow Mix House: Cat Reality Show
As posted by me a while back, Animal Planet is running a cat reality show based on elements of reality shows of Survivor, American Idol, and Big Brother.
Cats from local animal shelters auditioned and now live in a swanky New York walk up apartment, compete on a weekly basis in various activities (like paw painting) and then viewers vote who stays and who goes.
The show is running on Friday nights 9 pm EST on Animal Planet. I do not know if they will have a repeat marathon so if you missed it, you can now tune in. Last show airs August 18th.
The cats even have their own blogs! Pawsitively G-rated family entertainment.

Art Fun: Jackson Pollock
Here is something fun and creative for you to try.
Create your own art Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) style, you know, the guy who threw paint to make splatters, splotches, dots and drippings to create abstract art (see example above).
The page comes up blank use your mouse to scribble and click your mouse to add color.
If you want to start over, just refresh the page.
Have fun and let me know what you think. Thanks for visiting.
Jackson Pollock quasi art by you!

Tweaking Your TBlog Template
This is a post for a new member who needed a bit of help. If I left anything out, any other member please help out and fill in with a comment. This is simple and basic information in a nut shell. Thanks. First off, you need to sign in.
Go to MY ACCOUNT -- MY IMAGES -- select TBLOG if you wish to upload into your tblog account. You can upload your avatar and SELECT IT as your avatar by clicking the box and saving.
All your uploads will appear on your CSS form under the TEMPLATE CHOOSER in the java boxes.
You need to click open the box to make a selection of what you wish to use (includes backgrounds).
You can upload your avatar and SELECT IT as your avatar by clicking the save box and saving.
Go to MY BLOG.
Select TEMPLATE CHOOSER
Go to EDIT MY COLORS
On your RETRO (example used) template I noticed several java boxes that you can change your backgrounds if you have uploaded into your tblog account.
If you are not sure which is which, then I suggest that you upload three very different backgrounds and test each one out in each section.
You may want to print out the CSS page and then mark the page so you know what goes where so you don't get so confused.
SAVE your page always (very important!). A confirmation page comes up and then you can SELECT VIEW YOUR BLOG (with the changes) or CONTINUE TO EDIT.
Note where your backgrounds go when the saved page comes up.
If you don't like it you can always check "revert" and it goes back to the original look.
When you have completed this, you may want to delete the sample backgrounds you tested in your tblog picture archives and upload your own, what you want to use on your page.
Redo the above process with the backgrounds you want.
ADD/EDIT your HTML (still under TEMPLATE CHOOSER)
Here you can click on a box to see where your chosen template (RETRO) allows HTML and then you can add a banner and other coded items.
ADD/EDIT MY LINKS - exactly what it says and you can put them in the order you desire.
Now if you wish to have visitors to your blog -- fill out your profile with as much or as little as you desire. What is your comfort level?
Add some TAG interest words that describes your blog, or interests. This is what people will use if they are searching for people with like interests.
The avatar picture you selected from your uploads should be there.
You can acquire friends. You need to ask people to approve you as a friend.
You can visit blogs and just type in the name of the tblogger and add to your BOOKMARKS too.
On your BOOKMARK page, you will see the last post and they are in order from the most recent post to a stale blog, no post in a long time.
MY SETTINGS -- where you can change your email and settings.
Under MY BLOG you already did the template tweaking.
You can also select to add a post, edit your post or comments, or change your BLOG SETTINGS
BLOG SETTINGS are your BLOG NAME, DESCRIPTION, (shows up and listed in a search)
- disable comments,
- controlling who can comment (no one, any one on the net, or tblog members only)
- how many blog entries per page (more entries, the longer the page scrolls)
- your time zone
I hope this helps you a bit. It is always so confusing when you are new.
Template Review -- you need to play a bit to get yours to look the way you want it.
All tBlog Links and ads are fixed on every template.
Almovara template -- you cannot add a picture background or a background on your blog enteries, only HEX colors. The one HTML box is at the top of the page. Links and Archives are in java boxes at the top of the page making it a very neat look. Ads are at the bottom of the page.
How to add pictures/banner to the Almo Vara template (text file, opens in new window, contains coding for adding to any blog template that has a side bar HTML boxes).
Pictorial tutorial -- Almo Vara -- where the HTML boxes are on this template (opens in a new window).
TBlog Default allows you to add backgrounds. HTML can be added to either side of the three column template.
Pictorial tutorial -- Default -- where the HTML boxes are on this template (opens in a new window).
Sport -- you can add a header and footer background but you cannot add a blog entry background (known as a "wrapper"). HTML box is along the right hand side where you can add all sorts of stuff before the fixed links. You cannot remove "About Me" at the top of the right column. A background can be added for blockquotes.
Blue -- Allows for page background and blog ("wrapper")&nbs p;entry background. Navigation bar and content bar can also have backgrounds too. HTML box is under all the fixed links.
Pink -- similiar to Blue BUT with major limitations. You can add a header, footer, navigation bar backgrounds. At the time, I could not see where the HTML boxes were nor were they working when I was playing with it having HTML in several boxes, saving and viewing. This means counters or other images could not be added to the side navigation bar. Overall, this template is basic and you can do a lot with it if you just want a fun but plain look and no custom HTML fixings on the sidebar or anywhere else on the template.
Pictorial Tutorial -- Pink -- no HTML boxes but some advice (opens in a new window).
Yellow - this template had the most features of all. You could put backgrounds almost anywhere, page, blog, navigation bar, header, and footer. HTML box was under all the fixed links.
Retro - HTML box is under the blog -- I think this is strange. The "wrapper" on this is the page background, You can have a header also. The "content body" is the blog body and you can put a background there also. The Footer contains the image so you would have to put the same "content body" image in that space if you wish your page to be consistant looking.
C3ROFire -- You can change that flaming picture with one of your own, just upload into your album and choose it in the java drop down box. Currently, you can no longer change the image of the burning van making this template a waste. A body background can be added but make sure it just says "repeat" in the box so the whole page gets the background. You can also add a blog background (where your posts are) and make sure the box says "repeat".
The navigation bar can also be customized. Not any more.
I would not recommend using this template unless you LOVE the burning van image.

New Widget Part 2
First, the widget seemed too big for the space.
Last night I noticed that it did stretch out my HTML box a bit and the top lavender bar and the black marquee were shortened and there was white space! Heaven forbid!
So this morning I played with the width (reduced it by 100) and the height (reduced it by 50) and now it looks fine and dandy and am pleased.
I see I got a few hundred visitors between last night and this am but no feedback.
Thanks for taking the time and looking though. Have a great day.

Adding a Slide Widget!!
OK, how long will this last? What do you think of this widget?
I was over at Slide.com and decided, since they invite you to do so, to post Lucy's wonderful hand made and hand stamped paper arts card gallery.
I am just testing it out but am sharing it right now with you so you can see it and maybe get an idea for yourself. The HTML code to embed is not long.
How to embed the code link:
Open up the HTML box in the advanced view editor, copy the code, and paste it in the box, click "update" and you should see your slide show in the editor box.
You can add a slide show to the side navigation bars in some of the templates. You would need to readjust the box size though by playing with the height and width numbers. If you don't, you stretch out the side navigation bars and squish your blog to a narrow strip.
You can use photos from Photobucket, flickr, Yahoo albums (links below), to build a slide and they have many to choose from.
You can even collect photos on the net you like and create a show of your favorite images. Gives new meaning to photo sharing. LOL
I think this is a great idea but for me, this seems to be a bit too big for my tblog space and taste. LOL -- I am thinking about it.
I know flickr, Photobucket, and Picture Trail (limits your uploads for a free account) all have widgets or badges you can embed but their codes are longer.
Picture Trail has a limitations on a free album.
Another source for a similiar show is RockYou with a wide variety of slide shows to choose from, and you can add music too.
Frappr is another blog source that offers a photo widget you can take with you on any site that supports the code. You sign up, add your pictures, collect/copy the code then paste it.
Zorpia is also another blog source that offers a slide show to go.
Love to hear your comments. Thanks!
(I removed the Slide Show 12/06 when I got the Sport Template.)

Template Tweaking and more . . .
Ok -- yesterday I played and tweaked my Almovara basic gray template.
I like how simple, and uncluttered it looks.
As you can see, I used lilac type color, I also liked the plain boring white background too. I only wish that on this template you could add a background image not a color. I noticed on the pink template that the box for your tblog images comes up and you can select a background for your blog. The Almovara template does not allow you to do that, no box with selections.
The other issue I have is the HTML box on this template (where the banner and marquee scroll is above). However, it does not say how many character limitations or kb size it has.
Nor does it say if java scripting is supported. Maybe those are just a few comments to put on the page for the "advanced users" like me. LOL
Guess I will find out when I try to add some other stuff.
Hope you like the happy Peanuts music.
I cannot get to the help forum/FAQ either. This has been going on for months. It says I am not signed in when I am. Even if I resign in, I still can't get to it. I need some ideas and that is where I need to go.
I thought I read there were suppose to be some improvements real soon? I wonder when and what they will be.
Lately, I have noticed that the amount of spam on the tblurt and the recent blog updates has been great.
The other day, my new post did not make it to the Recent Blog entry list but all the spam did.
And what is with the people who have blogs that sell pots and pans or kitchen gadgets? Actually, that seems sort of funny now doesn't it? Blogging to promote pots, pans and kitchen gadgets. Yes, I saw it, posted with a tricky post. I will not order any product advertised in a blog though.
There are real people here at tblog and it is really sad that it takes so long to find them when there is all the spam. Imagine the new people here and how frustrating it must be. I know it has taken me a few months just to organize myself here and figure everything out.
I have a big list of blogs I like to visit on my bookmarks so that helps.
The people who put tblog together do have a fine and great product. They work hard at trying to improve the basics they started with but the spam, s-mu-t, and p-or-n and i-n-c-est, is just too much. Naturally, they have no control over what people actually post but to keep regular people in a community, I think they have to have some basic rules of ethics.
To resolve this, I think they should have included in their fixed links -- a report abuse button.
If you want me to be on your friend list. Just ask. Thanks.
Tell me what you think of my new make-over here. Thanks so much.

Pirates of the Caribbean
He is back and savvy as ever!
This AM (7/6/06) on Regis and Kelly, Orlando Bloom was the guest.
He said that in the last movie, he was running around in little shoes and funny socks and in this movie he got some real pirate boots and a leather jacket. He was thrilled.
Orlando says his character tries to rescue his Dad from the murky waters of the deep. Now he says with a bit of background, his character of Will has more dimension. He is happy with that.
Orlando says Jack makes a great entrance and how will they top that in the next movie?
I also saw that the actor who plays Davey Jones was sadden by the fact he did not get to have a pirate costume and run around with all the other actors on the set and have some "fun". He had sensors on him and in front of the green screen then was computer animated, just like Golem in LOTR.
Keira Knightly on another interview show said she begged the writers to allow her character to kiss Jack. She was pretty excited her dream came true.
Orlando said that they filmed for 9 months in the Caribbean and they are finishing up the Pirates 3 which will be out next summer. He said that they had to be evacuated from the set a few times due to Hurricane Rita.
Johnny Depp based the movements of Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Keith has recovered from falling out of a tree while on an exotic vacation. He has signed on to play Captain Jack's father in the next film. Sounds great and funny!
I was disappointed that Johnny Depp did not win an Oscar for his first performance as Jack. He says that does not matter, he likes to be in quality productions and portray unique characters. He has said not living in Hollywood helps him focus more on his work when he is on a set. Just go do a job and be done with it. He has had an interesting career but I think this is what he will be remembered for.
Johnny has said that he would like to put Jack to rest after the third movie but who knows what will happen, he has created a great character and to think Disney was extremely leary about his portrayal in the first place. Johnny's insights to Jack proved to be correct and Disney should be happy with the excessive profits they have made so far and into the future.
Stay tuned and enjoy the show!
Starts Friday July 7th USA. Some theatres are showing the film at midnight so check your listings. The movie runs 2 1/2 hours.

Elvis Impersonators
I find these people most interesting and very amusing although I never was a real Elvis fan, my college room mate was!
I often wonder how much time they put into perfecting their routines.
How many movies they watch, how many times imitating Elvis in front of a mirror.
How much money they spend on outfits.
Certainly an expensive hobby.
I went to a state fair and they had an Elvis look alike wannabe contest. Some of them were even better than Elvis.
I remember some song by someone? that went "Elvis is everywhere, Elvis is everything", something like that. I thought that was pretty funny too.
But my favorite Elvis was the one that was in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and sings "Song of the King" to an Elvis type beat and then in the end, ripped off his fake sideburns, tossed them in the air, says "thank you very much" and leaves the stage. I liked all the extra Egyptians with the sunglasses jiving it (bopshubahdy-bahdy) up in the background too.
(The fun part of the Joseph is all the differnt styles of music incorporated into the musical like Elvis, Calypso, rock, ballad, French cafe style, etc. telling the story.)
Go see "Joseph" or an Elvis impersonator if you can. A fun time.
Avatar of Elvis found at Elvisfun.com -- more than 400 more can be found there along with a bunch of other Elvis stuff.

Traffic Jam!
I was travelling on a minor but heavily travelled roadway off a major highway.
The light was green but as soon as I crossed the roadway, the traffic stopped. I was in the middle of the road. No where to go.
The out of state car in front of me was going to turn around in the middle of the intersection but decided at the last minute NOT too. There would have been a major accident.
Then the other lights changed and people could not get out because the car in front of me and myself, and the two cars behind me were blocking the road because all the hundreds of other cars before me were stalled and not moving although we had a green light. Some sort of problem way up ahead for this to happen.
Horns were tooting. For heaven's sake, I can't go anywhere or even move out of the way and YES, I know I am in your path but NOT MY FAULT.
I have no control over the problem ahead here and the non-moving traffic and I cannot solve it either until everyone ahead of me moves on and the road is normal again.
Geesh, some people are so self centered and self absorbed.
This is about as good as the day I was driving and the traffic was halted. There was a big tractor trailer in front of me, he crepted forward a few feet but I just stayed put because I just wanted that space between me and him, about five feet. I have no line of vision because he is a HUGE truck and blocks out the situation.
The lady in the fancy beamer (collecting construction road dust) behind me lays on the horn for me to move forward a few feet myself. Like we all were really going somewhere. Eventually after a very long wait, we were moving and fortunate for her, my five feet let her accelerate to normal speed sooner so she could be "on time" to where-ever.
I hate summer around here. Too many tourists and too much traffic compared to the rest of the year. Tourists think because they are on vacation, we natives need to adapt to their vacation rules and regs and they are exceptions to all local ordinances.
