J.C. Penney Catalogtastrophe
This is a consumer post and my sad sob story (get your hankies to wipe the tears) about being discriminated by the catalog giant, J.C. Penneys for a mistake they made.
I love to order from the catalog. I started in college when I was stuck up in the woods of northern New England where there was no place to go for shopping. My brothers use to tease me about ordering a boyfriend or husband from the men's underwear section, sometimes they would pick one out and write a fake bio or say "Tad called with a message" and wrote fake ones, for fun. I worked as a cashier at the small grocery store during college. I paid a compliment to a nice lady customer and she told me that she got her outfit at J.C. Penney's catalog. I never heard of them. She loaned me her giant catalog and I ordered myself some great fashionable fall clothing for pennies, cowl turtle necks, kilts, and a few pairs of gaucho pants, a few nice sweaters.
So the years roll on, and I order more but now with an apartment, a house and kids, I continued to order a variety of merchandise and was a very satisfied customer. Penney's never let me down.
Then it happened. I ordered an expensive curtain rod. It did not come with the rest of the order. I called the company and they said they would send out another one. They did but they also charged me a second time since the first one never came. I called to have this fixed, get credit for the first, but I get charged a third time and the first mischarge was never taken care of. After many phone calls and headaches that lasted nearly three months, it got resolved but I got penalized.
Penney's dropped me from their mailing list and I got no more catalogs so I did not shop there at all, even if we went to the Mall, I did not shop there. This big business could not be trusted.
The past couple of months, I have been swapped by them with many small catalogs, the large catalog, and now, the Christmas Wish Book just arrived hot off the press at my doorstep.
Hmmmm? You want my business again because you need some cash flow after you sent me packing?
I will think about this seriously considering the original mistake was made on your end by not so well trained people who you paid with the profit from my sales.
Maybe a nice summer bonfire will cheer me up. I can toast a few marshmallows and make s'mores. If you are sobbing at my tale of woe, please stand back from the fire as to not put it out. Have a s'more please.

Ten Laws of Simplicity
Law 1: Reduce
The simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction.
Law 2: Organize
Organization makes a system of many appear fewer.
Law 3: Time
Savings in time feel like simplicity.
Law 4: Learn
Knowledge makes everything simpler.
Law 5: Differences
Simplicity and complexity need each other.
Law 6: Context
What lies in the periphery of simplicity is definitely not peripheral.
Law 7: Emotions
More emotions are better than less.
Law 8: Trust
In simplicity we trust.
Law 9: Failure
Some things can never be made simple.
Law 10: The One
Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful.

Funny Map
I found this incredibly amusing. I tried posting it here with the URL provided but it did not work, the small was too large. Resizing it smaller, it got blurry. You will have to go to the page, with a click you can enlarge it to read. Enjoy!

53rd Wedding Anniversary
On June 12, it would have been my parent's 53rd Wedding Anniversary.
They met at the dance hall, Mosley on the Charles in Boston in the early 50's.
My Mom made it to the 50th and sadly her last anniversary celebration. My brother had a nice little cookout for them since they were not splashy people and did not want a tony event.
Eight months later, she passed away from complications of radiation after being cured of cervical cancer (she had the rare tumor type).
I found this video which reminded me of them yet sums up any life or relationship no matter what age you are or what time period you live in and loss.
Explosions in the Sky -- Your Hand in Mine
We all miss my Mom (Dad lost his dance partner.), especially my kids. She was such a good grandmother to them. I know she is still with us in so many ways.
Thanks for stopping by to my little cyber party for them -- she would have approved.
