Blueberry Buckle
This is an original New England recipe passed down for generations. (New twist with the canned blueberries). Blueberries are good brain food. Eat plenty to keep you sharp as a tack!
1 cup blueberries, fresh or canned (drain if canned)
6 Tbsp. shortening
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 cup of milk
1 3/4 cup of flour
1 tsp of salt
2 3/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. vanilla
Mix the sugar and shortening together until smooth.
Add eggs.
Sift dry ingredients together, saving a little flour to dust the blueberries before adding them.
Add flour and milk alternately to the sugar and shortening mixture.
Add vanilla: mix well.
Dust the berries with flour saved for that purpose: fold into mixture gently.
Pour into 9 x 9 inch pan.
Cover with topping made of 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 Tablespoon cinnamon and 1 1/2 Tablespoons margarine.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Miss Marple
Miss Marple (played by Geraldine McEwan) is back on PBS with all new shows (Season 3, not that many, but enough).
Last night she was called "nosey' and a "busy body" by other characters and I love how she eavesdrops and just comes up with the who dun it theory and why.
Geraldine McEwan is just so darling and worldly as Miss Marple compared to Joan Hickson (1906-1998) who did a more relaxed and country type Miss Marple.
It does seem amusing that where ever Miss Marple is, murder occurs and she is in the mix yet sees things clearer than the Chief Inspectors assigned to the job.
I love the costume period dramas.
Many special guest stars on this series -- Tom Baker (Dr. Who) is one with a sad and tragic fate along with Dame Eileen Atkins (funny). Francesca Annis (of Tommy and Tuppence fame), Julian Sands (George in "A Room With A View"), and Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn) are just a few featured players in this Series 3. Summer has just gotten interesting.
My local movie rental shop closed down. The next nearest one is too far away to travel to. This is going to be great for me!

Happy 4th!
I hope everyone had a nice day.
It was gray and windy here and the local fireworks got cancelled due to a huge downpour.
All this meant for me was more blogging time and watch fireworks on TV with out having to apply bug spray! LOL
Stay safe.
