Adding a Counter to Your Blog

Counters for your Tblog

If you would like to know:
how many visitors you have,
maybe where they come from,
what pages/blog enteries are they looking at,
what are your popular pages
what are your entry pages,
what are your exit pages,
not to mention where in the world they are coming from, and
what search engine or key words they used to find something you wrote or more info on your visitors --

. . .then you need or could use a counter.

My reviews here are based on my experience using these free counters on my sites.

You open an account using a working email address, list your URL, and then you get a code to copy and paste as a counter.

Here are some simple easy to use non complicated counters to use that do not use java script, only one account/website/blog per email address –

ShinyStat – you can get a counter that tells visitors how many people are on your site in addition to counting your visitors.

W3counter – I thought this was a really nifty site. I use this here. I like the overlay stat that tells how many times a link has been clicked on. I also created an index for my Tblog using the stats here.

Amazing Counters – you can choose from a variety of 450+ themed designs however, they do come with a clickable small ad in light gray that should not be removed (or your counter will not work). You can change sponsors easily also if you don’t like what they assign you.

The following use java scripting in their codes:

Sitemeter – this is a great little site with lots of stats to view about your site and visitors. One account one site per email address.

Statcounter – I have used this one but I did have problems with the javascripting. If you have problems with the java, then you will not be able to see certain stats. They have a nice email stat graph. If you have more than one site, you can put them all on one free account.

Ewebcounter – This one I really love. You get 200 page stats and up to 5 accounts on one email address if you have 5 websites to put stats on.

Extreme Tracking – if you use their free service, it is public information so people can see your stats if they click on the icon.

On some of the counters, you can choose invisible meters or you can choose your stats to be private or public. On others, all information is public if someone clicks on the icon.

You can also put your ISP number in on some accounts so that when you visit your own site, that you are not recorded as a visitor or a hit.

You can also select whether you want hits or visitors to be recorded. Hits is just that, how many times your site has been hit (maybe per page view) and visitors are just visitors, how many visitors did you actually have.

On some counters you can also select what count number you wish your counter to start at by typing in the appropriate information in the little box.

If you have another site to add to this list, please leave it in the comments below.  The link will not be live but I can add it to the post list so it will be.

Thanks.
