Compliments to LadyG!
Shortly after reading LadyG's post on "What Makes a Person Attractive", I came across this poem and thought it would be a nice compliment to LadyG's blog entry. Enjoy!
Some folks in looks take so much pride
They don't think much of what's inside.
Well, as for me, I know my face
Can ne'er be made a thing of grace,
And so I rather think I'll see
How I can fix th' inside of me
So folks'll say, "He looks like sin,
but ain't he beautiful within!"
Written by John Kendrick Banks, 1862-1922.
He was the humor editor of "Harper's Magazine", "Harper's Bazaar", and "Harper's Young People".
He also was editor of a political humor magazine called "Puck" which was very popular in it's day satirizing politicians and society issues of the times.

Yes, serendipitious that it appeared before my eyes after I read her post. I hope she likes it but she may be still sleeping. . . shhhhh it's a surprise! Sort of sums up what she posted in a nutshell.
And to think it was written so long ago and holds true today!
Times change but basic human psychology/behavior stays the same.

I felt there was an angel reading with me and then lo and behold, I got my poetry collection out and the book flipped opened to the very page this poem was on. How odd is that? and what a lucky coincidence!

its a rare coincidence. it tells (to me atleast) how beautiful and sincere you are from your inside. sometimes God tells you and helps you see what you need to see, just like a tarrot card (and to see your tarrot card go to godsmack's blog...lol)

that was a very nice sentiment...in the end, I'd much rather be remembered for treating people well.

So very true. And you know what, if I like the person within, then I find a way to consider the person without to be attractive.

I guess we can call this poem of philosophy a classic fact of life.
