What is Success?

I like this and thought it would go well with my other Inspriational and Motivational postings.

What is Success
by Ralph Waldo Emerson

What is success?
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

PSX makes a rubber stamp with this poem on it.

Yes! quite amazing that all the old classical literature was written out by hand and there were no distractions like we have today.

thats simply great. all true but just a thought : does success mean satisfaction? or success means to set higher goals and never get satisfied? what if you loose so much on your way to success that you are unable to laugh rest of your life?

ohhhh.... sorry hope i am not destroying the beauty.

I think personal success is when you are satisfied with your accomplishments.

I would not call a person successful if they only had a lot of money and things, are tyrants, and lacked in their relationships with friends and family.

i think satisfaction is death. striving to thrive in all spheres of life is LIFE. success is end of the story. Life is quite materialistic i suppose, hunger has nothing to do with happiness. How Can one be happy with an empty stomach. Realistically, i see my kids eyes shining when i gift them something they have seen on the TV, or my wife is more affectionate when she gets an expensive gift ffrom me. I get happy when i get a raise in my salary or earn some extra bonus. Should we say happiness is co-related with money and so is the success.
