Advice for Returning Gifts

Need to return something Santa brought you by accident?  Have a habit of returning lots of things?

Now some stores are using a software program to track your returns and keep a file on you.

Make sure you know what the store policy is before you decide to return the item. (Examples: time limitations, restocking fees, issuing store credit only)
Make sure you have the receipt when returning.

If you don't, most stores will only give you credit for the item's current price.  For instance, you actually paid $100. for the cashmere sweater but now it is on sale for $50. and that is all the credit they will allow you without a receipt.

Here is an article with more information and tips on returning goods.

You know, I did not even think of that!
Someone buys a gift for you, gives you the gift receipt, you need to return it, and whose account does it go on, the gift givers or the recievees?

So it could be that the gift giver gets the "demerit" or is it the person who returns it?

Sometimes if it is clothing, it may not fit or is the wrong item so people will exchange it for the right one.

If it is a gadget, it may not work, may be missing a piece or something else may be wrong with it.

It could be that maybe someone may not like what was given and they just need something else more appropriate so they get store credit and come back another time.

I rarely return gifts, but I often return stuff I buy for myself!

Hello Inkspector!

Merry Christmas, and for all those gifts, I say "pay them forward!"

I'm a big fan of the time-honored tradition of "regifting" *stuff* that was mistakenly directed to my household. (When that happens, it suggests the presenter of the gift is someone who has *no clue* what has value in my home!)

So, to pass it along to the next person, is the appropriate action to take, eh?

"Merry Christmas!!"

- Andrea

Yes, sometimes I also eventually donate an unused gift to a better cause.

I do the same thing Andrea! I have a closet with things that I've received that I couldn't use or had duplicates and either donate or regift them. It really comes in handy :)
