10 Germ Hot Spots in Your Home
Since it is suppose to be around 50 degrees around here this weekend, I am going to spring clean and start to organize my yardsale (end of April or May).
This MSN article will help me get things clean and nearly germ free (got to have a few good germs around that eat the bad ones).
Every few days, I do go around the house with a few paper towels and the Lysol spray cleaner and wipe down door knobs and cabinet pulls, plus the refrigerator and freezer doors. I think this has help reduce our colds in the house.
I am going to have my children read it too, maybe they will keep their spaces cleaner? More likely, they will only "think" about what they read for now.

Germs = yuck!
I am ridiculed at work because I use a tissue to open the door in our office ~ it is a doctor's office and it is full of germs ~ I am the one with the rare cold as opposed to the rest of the staff. I just smile when they say I have OCD problems. :)

You are not alone. I do the same thing in a public rest room.
I was happy to hear that Oprah does the same thing too.
I also will open the door with my foot or hold it open with my arm/shoulder rather than touching it.
(Then I toss the paper towel in the trash as I hold the door with my foot or arm/shoulder, and leave.)
If you read the article, it stated that cell phones being put down in places are the biggest germ holders, including the cases. I keep mine in my pocket book almost all the time.
But that brings up another good issue that was not mentioned. Pocketbook bottoms -- where do you put yours if you are out? I never thought of this -- but if you put it in the grocery carriage seat -- remember a baby with a leaky diaper could have been there earlier. A regular swipe on the bottom of your pocketbook is not a bad idea either.

Sorry Ink - I'm one of those who believes a few bad germ encounters primes my immune system. I travel often to places with low levels of hygiene like China and if I'm too clean at home - I spend most of my time nursing a gippy tummy. But that's me.

Right -- a few germs you need to keep a balance. You can't get rid of them all. I try to lighten the load a bit myself by cleaning up now and then.
Once my daughter started school -- she brought home every illness you could imagine. We were all so sick her first year in school -- worse for her -- she was out for a month with an infection. But for my son who was only 6 months old when she started school, he ended up with constant ear infections and was on meds for two and a half years before they started to clear up.
The worst is when they bring home the flu. ICK for us all sick for the same time.

Oh yes, kids do tend to bring home the infections and nothing can be worse than looking after a sick child when you feel like death yourself!

Sounds like some good ideas, to clean doorknobs once in a while!! If the kids still suffer from ear infections, silver water 15-30 ppm silver, is the very best treatment...you do it only once instead of antibiotics which one has to put in for 7 days, but hole it in at least 6 minutes for a one shot total cure!!

I never heard of that.
My children are past (older now) all the ear aches though, for now.

I'm with pretensions-- the opposite of the germ-a-phob. You could almost say I go looking for germs. I'm a generally healthy person, although I was sick last week. First time in years though. Dish rags and the bottom of my purse does give me the heebie jeebies though. Yuck!

Thanks for stopping by.
I don't mind germs but when the kids bring home "unknown surprises", I just like to cut some of our exposure down a bit, well hopefull at least.
